Went thru 2Gb in just over a week which surprised me. Така можете да се уверите, че правилния продукт е пристигнал здрав при вас. This is a good thing — dbm is on the edge of no signal, where as dbm could be seen as good to great signal, which is what is reflected in the signal strength meter. Does it come with some kind of error? The total update process is quite lengthy.. I didnt measure mine but suspect it was around 20mins or so. The optional antenna ports are both for the cellular LTE radio, not for the Wifi.

Unless of course you have a pre July grandfathered offer but you must have an active account with recharge credit. I have Cap Encore soon to be Freedom on my phone. Extending the expiry 14 days with each creditme2u.

When I first complained , the best they would do for me is give me a 10 gig actually 2 x 5 gig credit. When I pushed a lot further, they said they would re-instate the credit to the full days, as I said I didnt believe I had done anything wrong.

Well, this little gadget is much less stable than the old MF60 at home. I hope its more stable in 4G areas when I am out and about. I dont have 4G here, just 3G, but its flippy flopping between 3G and "H", constantly.

Theres 4G two streets away but not here, sadly. Where I use it the signal is poor. Never see 4G, sometimes 3G will pop up with one bar. And network performance will be slow. I signed up for MOG subscriptions for the wife and I with my excess prepaid credit.

Much better than wasting it if I forget to renew it before it expires. MOG is useful if you have Iphone, not so good if you have Android. No idea when they are going to change it to whatever branding Apple wants to put on it.

We released firmware 7. I recommend that you set it to the lowest setting for your application. For the folks that have done the update, does it make a big difference to the modem? Specifically its cellular reception without an external antenna?

Having several other services helped a lot to demonstrate that they were keeping my business. I did the update right away, before I checked to see what it was like. Your line speed is 1. It seems faster for some sites. Your line speed is Your download speed is 1.

Me neither, I was forced to take the phone to Exetel when I wanted their cheaper offerings. My mobile has been prepaid with them since forever, but they dont care about anything except postpaid at times like this. I have no idea whats going on.

I have full 4G bars. So I guess it has an issue with the WiFi on my laptop: Yeah the speed is great. Just need to get it to work on my laptop otherwise it will be useless. Your download speed is Its intended as mobile broadband, battery to be charged as required, not plugged in.

Hi everyone am thinking of getting one but have a few questions: Does anyone know how much unlocking one of these units will cost? Some Telstra stores will do it for free. Depends on the staff and how busy they are.

Said the only way was to call Telstra.. Gonna try in store again in a week or two. I put another Telstra SIM in ie not the one which came in the box and it worked with no changes. Are you talking about a Telstra SIM or another carrier?

If another carrier you need to unlock it. If its no trouble, could you or anyone post up some of the settings from your m. Hoping that thats where the issue may lie with my device. I must admit I am impressed. I ran it yesterday as a test, using my Android phone through it — not using Data via the phone, only the 4G wifi plus.

I turned it on at am, and finished with it at about 10pm. I only got disconnected after 2hrs 34mins as I took it mobile to test in a better area, via a non-service area for Telstra, but the next connection went for 10hrs 13 mins.

Well just tried to connect to it with my laptop, that went fine. However still no data connection. Android phone keypads not good for fat fingers. What I found is that its pretty useless on 2.

Last night, I changed to the frequency and started to get the 4G speeds I was expecting! I can leave it on this frequency but not all my devices would be able to connect. I do however have a data problem, the device now shows Credit expired, and to recharge and restart the device.

Had to swap to Optus 4G to find I still have Maybe the Twitter clock change got them too. Will see what it does tomorrow before I contact Community Support. Anyone else had a data expiry issue prior to actually running out of data?

I cannot remember the exact amount it had left when it first daid "expired" might have been around a gig.. I have had no problem with 2. You should be able to access any Telstra site, accounts in particular, even when out of data.

How else would you be able to recharge? Puts more weight on whether I should take it Telstra to get it checked. Just looking at history of speed tests from my phone at 2. Hi guys, I just got one of these units and have unlocked it, but when I try to put my current mobile phone virgin sim in, and try to test it out using the mobile phone sim as a hotspot it doesnt seem to work failure to connect.

Weird that a software update would do that; anyway the attractive Telstra tech girl replaced the SIM and its working as intended. Did it come good or did you or friend have to contact support? Currently not using it though..

I have a few devices and I actually have another given to me.. Log in to the user interface at Then you should be able to connect with your Vodafone sim. If it does not work check your settings and try turning it off and then back on again.

Now, the quest to find out whether my part of the world Latrobe Valley, km east of Melbourne is getting these new services Their maps are just an estimate of their coverage area, and they will have just made that estimate less-optimistic.

Could be any number of reasons for it. Or maybe they got updated topology data for your area and their latest revision of the map is now more accurate. Just a couple of guesses towards numerous possibilities there.

Can I skip an Optus Sim in the Telstra unit? U T C writes When you claimed that you can get 24hrs from it, I thought, "how on earth is he achieving that when mine only lasts for around hrs at the most? Unfortunately, nothing east of Melbourne is getting it.

And the coverage map lists 3G, some areas with 4G, and lots of area with bugger all Thanks for that BB, Well mine came good yesterday, without any intervention by Telstra that I am aware of — I did contact support and was given a number to call, but it had come good by then.

Using it today, but battery sure is not doing the same as the other day I used it. I am thinking as a mobile device, with mhz available, it will be bettter for me to use that in the newer areas that have been just switched on, than the ZTE MF dongle I have been using till now.

Quite happy with it, Mhz is quite a distance from me, so will take it in the car on return to work so I can test in the areas that have it. One area I visited was very poorly covered, even the Telstra company phone had no service while on the road for a pick-up.

Optus was no good either. Told the office we are un-contactable out there. Has anyone tried out different brand dongles yet in their MF, unlocked? The mf isnt a router you plug a usb 3G dongle into, it has the 3G built in.

Why should the GUI be any different? Just the related user-entry data chages as required. Purchase and delivery was seamless. Took it down to my holiday house on the surf coast. Activated it easy enough. Used my Asus Transformer and iPad with it and switched off wifi on both devices when not in use.

Went thru 2Gb in just over a week which surprised me. Then the last 1Gb went overnight with both devices off. Keen to know what plan those that have unlocked gave moved to. Yes, Mine last 1GB disappeared as well, got to 2.

According to Telstra MyAccount, all allowance was used. Could be a plot. Better make use of it at home. It has happened to a few users in this thread. I contacted Crowd support and a couple of days later I was given a phone number in the response, but it had come good by then.

No idea why it happened. I inserted the sim into the MF without any other changes to "settings" and it worked fine on 4G. You only pay for the day that you use it. How much, if anything did you pay to get it unlocked?

Did you get the code from a store, or via phone? Well, after being out and about the other day, and trying it out in the places I usually would find myself wanting to use it I think I will be selling mine off, and using the sim in my older and smaller Elite which seems to consistently get better speeds in the same places.

Its possible I have a dud, of course. Seems like I get worse than 3G speed wherever I am using different servers with the mobile speedtest app didnt help In the same places, my iPhone consistently gets good speed. They gave it to me free after a bit of a hassle as I am a big user of Telstra services and I want to use it overseas.

I came back a few hours later, screen is red and blinking, 0 data remaining but still 60 days, instruction to reboot after recharging. I rebooted it, it recognized my data correctly again. Battery life on idle is great I had it running for about 2 weeks without charging it and not using it a great deal.

Just like some other postings I suddenly found I had no credit left at just over 1GB and 7 days left of my 3GB which came with the modem and asking me to recharge. Its been like this for over 24 hours. Some of the posting says the credit returns after a couple of days but do I have to complain about it first or does it just magically reapper.

For whatever reason this occurs it seem to be quite wide spread and Telstra knows about it and has not fixed the problem. Being a cynic I keep thinking its a deliberate attempt to get us to recharge before the credit expires.

Is there something that can be done to prevent Telstra letting this happen. We just purchased one the other day for holidays and it did this. I just rang up Telstra to complain. It took a while on the phone to sort out the problem, but eventually the lady got me to press WPS and power button at the same time when the modem is on.

This turned the modem off. When I restarted again, the 1GB lost was restored. The lady was also kind enough to extend my expiry by a week for the 48 hours lost. Can anyone explain speedtest results and real life speed discrepancy on my recent 4G experience.

This afternoon speedtest result for MF was Tonight speedtest result with MF is Disregarding the large variation in speed with Optus at different times whereas Telstra appear to be more stable where I am, I would have thought that the real life upload speed should follow speedtest upload result closely.

Is Telstra somehow optimizing their 4G service for speedtest purposes but not delivering it in real life? I would have thought that the real life upload speed should follow speedtest upload result closely.

Quite the opposite in most cases. Speedtests generally find the best possible server s , sometimes using several at once to show potentially the best possible outcome. Any server you may access at any time may be under sufficient load to produce very slow speeds in either direction.

Can different servers differ that greatly in speed? You have to understand the nature of a server. A server can be overloaded or even fail. If it does you are rerouted to another one. There are inherent differences between wireless and fixed and how they deal with heavy loads but they use the same pathways on the Internet and therefore suffer the same shortcomings.

When I was with Internode they had an FTP server with several various sized files you could download via a command line interface, sometimes called a shell. Basically you would eliminate as many variables as possible, such as browsers, to get a true reading of your speed.

You would do test speeds over the course of a week at various times and take an average. It is a complex topic: Limited to 2G speeds — aka Internet hell. Thanks for your explanation. That is why I found my actual real life speed disparity so surprising but as you pointed out this could be a one off.

I did repeat the test a few times but granted it was all done within a couple of days. A friend suggested it but he bought a phone SIM. The device cost less than that! Do we have to use a SIM that is activated as a mobile broadband device to get the data usage info on the screen?

Not even sure if they have turned the area on yet either. Wow — someone really asked that. It is not a mobile telecommunications standard of any kind. Just before copping the cane for making the rest of the class burst out laughing I actually asked because some of the phones indicate the bands being used, by different ways and means of checking, and thought just maybe they had added some fancy feature in it to show mhz.

I actually asked because some of the phones indicate the bands being used, by different ways and means of checking. Is there a fix for this? When connected to power cable, it wont seem to shut down when holding power button?

Seems to only shut down when cable is disconnected or am i holding it wrong lol? I have unlocked my Telstra unit. The display issue seems to have fixed itself. Does anyone know if its compatible with US or indonesian telco frequencies?

Put the sim in my 3g and it still works, put the sim in my 4g phone and it works, just wont work in the Spent oven an hour on the phone with 3 Telstra consultants and still wont work. Does any one know how to fix this?

I have read through the forum but I can not see a solution other than that the extra 1GB that Telstra have ""stolen"" will magically reappear at after an indeterminate period of time. In the mean time I have no 4g internet unless I pay again for a service I have already paid for.

Perhaps I should use the word borrowed rather than stolen, since I will get it back at some point after I have bought a new one. Interestingly the internet sim still works in my 4g phone and my 3g modem. Must be an issue with the MF — lets hope it doesnt happen every month.

Both me and my uncle have this problem. He called me and told me it was impossible for him to use 1GB overnight! The SIM still works in other devices though so it may be a combination between the device and the service not detecting how much data is left.

I went to the Caloundra Telstra store today and was fobbed off in the usual condescending way they treat pre-paid customers. They pushed the reset button on the device and handed it back to me, and said its fine now. I waited five seconds, handed it back to them and said "the screen says its out of data again"".

Caloundra Telstra store refused to look up my account online to see that the 1GB data still did remain. They told me that because it was prepaid there was nothing more they could do and I needed to phone Telstra prepaid.

They phoned up Telstra prepaid, and then said it would be a half hour wait on hold for prepaid, so they would get someone to call me back. Finally after explaining the whole situation to the sixth Telstra employee 3 on the phone, and 2 in store , I found someone who actually did some troubleshooting and put data on and off my account replicating the fault, confirming that there was 1GB missing.

Finally she restored the missing credit, but advised me that technical support says there is no fault with the device. And the data has gone missing again. I downloaded just enough to get me below the 1GB limit, then turned the device off and back on, and we are locked out again!

Thanks to Richard who contacted us via Facebook to bring the issue to our attention and then we contacted the correct people at Telstra who will sort out what is happening. The MF is behaving correctly as designed and acting as if the billing platform is flagging that you have run out of quota.

Im not sure why this works, but it seems to. Try this for a workaround when you get the red screen of death on mf Actually not a work around really. I was just briefed on how the MF behaves and if the billing platform reports "out of credit" or "expired" then the MF will redirect "Once" and only once per activation ie.

But if you ignore the Red bannered WebUI and retry the destination website you will get through if you do have data allowance. So every man and his dog is looking at this now within ZTE and Telstra so we will see how all the work goes.

It has happened 3 times now each time when it reaches 1GB and just happened again tonight. Why should I have to recharge to reclaim data that should be there in the first place. So the fault in the mf must be in the Telstra billing system I have lost a few GB this way but not knowing the cause blamed the family for leeching.

Embarrassing really for me but much worse for ZTE and Telstra. They need to man up, fix the problem and proactively compensate users who were cheated. I noticed that the sticker on the side of the box says "expiry date: So that is promising. Just back in Brissy from Sydney early this morning. Came up the Putty road from Windsor, and saw on the Telstra coverage web page before leaving they have 3G coverage in the village of Putty, out in the middle of nowhere.

Not even sure if they have a phone service there as it is probably 60ks up from Windsor. Maybe radio linked phones. I decided to test the Pocket Wi-fi Plus, and stopped in a clearing on the top of the hill overlooking the Putty valley.

Lo and behold full scale 3G, so I did a test call on voip, as no service on the Optus mobile, it worked a treat. Just checked Voda page, no coverage by them there either. Anyone know why my db level has fallen dramatically but the connection seems to give me more bars and stays connected to 4G.

Has ZTE updated the firmware to adjust something, or perhaps Telstra, or has anyone else noticed such a phenomenon? This is a good thing — dbm is on the edge of no signal, where as dbm could be seen as good to great signal, which is what is reflected in the signal strength meter.

I would expect this is because of 4G deployment closer to your area than was available in the past. Stranger In The Night writes Yeah previously thought of getting a Yagi setup, but it seems to be working better, perhaps Telstra tweaked their mhz install.

But your explanation of me being an idiot, makes much more sense. Thanks to Chris we have verified that the MF is not at fault. We noticed that the records provided to the MF updated after the Billing platform Web interface updated.

We are reporting this and the details showing the change in records thanks to Chris to the right people in Telstra today. Thanks Dean and Chris, for trying to get this sorted out. It was pretty straight forward. To disable SSID being broadcast: Go to Setting Tab.

Thanks for the reply but I actually meant to disable wifi completely. The MF is connected to my router via USB and all devices are connected to the router so there is no need for the wifi on the MF to be on.

Got past 1GB without red screen of death. For me it looks like it may be fixed. Took nearly 4 months to fix and gave me a good opportunity to check out Optus which I find is cheaper and faster where I am. Going to keep my Telstra for emergency use only when Optus has no coverage.

I have an MF91 on a grandfathered offer. I have read this thread but am still confused. What is the general consensus, this modem or the Ultimate? Have you tried it. I would like to try my modem with a router also.

Which router are you using and is it hard to set up. Does anyone have any opinion on which prepaid hotspot I should go for? Is the 10 hours for actual usage? If I recall correctly the modem will go into standby if there is no activity after about 10 minutes.

There may be a setting to override this as I remember people complaining about this "feature". I can only speak for the MF91 and earlier models and I never had that problem but some people said they had to physically restart the modem after a short period of no data transfer.

Does anyone know the distances for the short, medium and long wi-fi range? I think the first instruction with these modems is charge the battery. I generally let them go totally dead first up in any case.

I see why you want to turn wifi off. I want to also connect my modem to a router. The only way of knowing for sure is by plugging it in to the USB port and seeing if it shows up in the dashboard Anyone recommend a cheap unlocking service for this device?

Code usually emailed by next day. Would this be a good hot spot for use in the USA? Anyone tried the fonecarecodes unlock on eBay. I thought this was resolved. Are there better alternatives? My 1GB problem may be fixed.

At least it got through 1GB mark once. Never been happier , faster and cheaper. I wish I had that option. Telstra is the only alternative when it comes to acceptable data speeds. These carriers predominately provided service using the GSM MHz band, and a dual-band phone is required to use both the native and affiliate networks.

As of , prepaid customers have almost all of the postpaid domestic roaming privileges and restricted international roaming to Canada and Mexico. In selected areas, if the above information is correct, there may still be a possibility of roaming to the the equivalent of our Telstra Mhz band ie UMTS Band 5.

It felt worse than all kinds of dialup hell. And looking at the T-Mobile bands, 2G is the only likely direct connection to their their network? The only way to read frequency specs, is to determine the bands that a device and carrier use.

I have done three trips using it, but when I am staying in remote areas , I sometimes wish I had access to Verizon. Got the unlock code tonight and it works fine from "fonecarecodes" on eBay. Then I gave Internet Wifi a go — pressed the search button, and it found my local wifi network.

Then I told it to update, and it was able to download and install it very slow install.. Looks like the battery was totally dead, which is a bit of a worry. Mine seems to go lose charge whilst powered off.

IE, flat after a month of sitting powered off. I picked up one of these today and set it to 4G only. Any cheap way to improve signal? If you have not already done so try moving your hotspot around looking for the best WAN signal.

Generally near windows and as high as possible works best but buildings and radio interact in complex ways so a thorough survey is wise. If necessary you can move it to another room, upstairs or even outside in a waterproof plastic container as long as the LAN is strong enough where you need it.

My other suggestion is to make a home made corner reflector antenna using cardboard and aluminium foil, the bigger the better. This gives the general idea except in your case the foil sides should both be vertical so the antenna beam faces the horizon rather than up towards a satellite.

There is no need to build the dipole: Directional antennas assume that the source of the signal is more or less a straight line as the crow flies to the base station. In many environments their may be multiple towers and mutlipath reception with various level signals coming from all directions.

Sometimes a solution may be found by just walking around and finding a location where the signal is consistently better. Its only connected to one as this is a old antenna I was using for my old 3g modem. This is the one http: Yea I did, went on amca.

Its now around dBm so almost the same. Is there any way to find out what telstra band i am connected to? So I can buy a new antenna s that supports that band? Checked all settings in the hotspot but cant find it anywhere.

That starfish antenna looks good and supports all telstra 4g bands? An advantage of the home made corner reflector antenna is that it works on all bands although better on higher frequencies. Another almost free idea.

Does your house have an outdoor TV antenna? You could try connecting the hotspot to the TV antenna instead of the TV and if you were very lucky it might be better than what you have now. If you buy an antenna of course you will need a coaxial cable to connect it to your hotspot.

The cable and the connectors attenuate the signal especially on higher frequencies so should be high quality generally thicker and as short as possible. A long cheap cable can lose more than you gain from a good antenna.

Yea made that corner reflector, and tweaked around for best spot in the window, got it to db now so that helped a bit: A few hours ago when I did a speed test I had a ping around 30, down speed around 5mbit, upload speed only 0.

Just did another speed test now a few hours later and its really fast now, but double ping but thats okey I guess. Then maybe, if you have the room, make a bigger one. Size counts for antennas anyway. Did you try the MF on 3G?

It can be just as fast as 4G and certainly has better coverage in many areas. If you can work out the band you could even make your own yagi which would have more gain stronger signal but more directional than a small corner reflector — there is plenty of help here on Whirlpool if you are interested: Yea tried 3G, wont even pick up signal in the same spot, the best speed I got with 3G trying diffrent spots in the house is around 2mbit down.

A Yagi antenna seems like a great alternative, or would I need 2 of them since I have 2 antenna ports? Just wondering about the battery, been reading some post saying its bad to have it plugged in all the time.

Well I have it plugged in all the time as its our main source of broadband at home. What are the risks with having it plugged in all the time? I have the MF91 on all the time and charging and have done since it was released.

Thanks, not going to worry about it then. I dont care if the battery lose its charge fast since its always going to be running plugged in. Just dont want to blow the thing up hehe: Also I have decided to not build a yagi antenna and just buy an antenna instead, is there any better alternative then this one:.

Might be good to have the charger on a timer. Maybe 2 hours a day whatever is enough to keep it from going flat. Also as an aside, https: Similar to a mechanical device that wears out faster with heavy use, so also does the depth of discharge DoD determine the cycle count.

The shorter the discharge low DoD , the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid full discharges and charge the battery more often between uses. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine.

There is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles to prolong life. The exception may be a periodic calibration of the fuel gauge on a smart battery or intelligent device.

I dont have a laptop or computer handy at moms place, can I setup this device using ipad wifi and connect to internet? Yes, it is a wifi hotspot like any other except password protected of course. I use one with my iPod Touch frequently.

This is a general thing ,but I have one of these, so yeah, putting it here. Be a bit wary about changing offers with Telstra to the new ones if you have a positive credit balance. The fine print on the transfer page of the website says that you lose plus packs and bonus data when changing, but you keep your credit.

Good luck with that. Oh but it does. Data Plus is very different to the old offer. You should have used up your data before changing offers or followed the advice given on this forum using Creditme2u in particular.

I had just done it for my phone, which went seamlessly with no wait time. I read over the text on the offer change page for the Wifi service and interpreted "your credit rolls over to the new plan" as exactly that.

I was actually expecting a bit of a bump in data, given that the cents per megabyte is a bit better on the newer plan I completely missed the very crucial point that it was changing from a consume credit as you go to a plus pack style system as is used with phones.

It makes sense when you get the explanation after the fact. Before the fact, not so much I was happy to lose non-existent bonus data and plus packs — that was very clearly explained: I usually do come on here and read as many pages as it takes to understand something before I act Married to Christ writes I was trying not to think about that too much The idea of moving out several Telstra services because I have the pip over a WiFi box data problem really depresses me.

They gave me 28 Gigs of data with 2 years expiry, and left the credit balance intact. Do you know how many version of firmware there are for this device? Is there a generic version? What the last fw version code? In Australia I know of only two firmware versions: I have not seen a generic version.

The sim card jams in the slot unless you put the sim in the correct way which is upside down. If not for these issues I would have been happy to buy more of them. Hi Snot, tnx for the answer.

Maybe i was wrong naming it "fw version", but i meant firmware "model" So my quetsion is, how many different fw models exist for this MF device? Is there a generic fw model from ZTE? About the goodness of the device, are you happy with it?

I was looking for this for the possibility to di bandlocking and for the good reception. And it seems there is the possibility to use an ethernet adapter. Anyone tried to use and usb-ethernet adapter?

Personally I think it important that you buy a device locally so it has the hardware and firmware to suit local bands — ours has amongst others LTE band 28 whereas European users need LTE band 20 for best coverage. Is anyone up to speed on firmware updating for the MF?

Yet I understand that the current firmware is 7. My device tells me that I have the current firmware! Since the only update method seems to be via the on-board menu, I am stuck! Its black and I was able to use the Nano Sim with an adapter — it slides in and out easily with no hint of catching.

How would the reception of one of these compare to a mobile phone ie. Note 4 with the same bands? Would moving to a dedicated wireless modem not yet considering external antennas etc be an improvement on this?

One advantage of the modem though is that you can conveniently use it wherever the signal strength is best, eg. Could you do a full dump of the device memory? If you agree, you can write the statement.

Sorry for the mistakes, used a translator. I have waded through all 24 pages so far and can only see one person who scored a free unlock from Telstra and one other who unlocked via an Ebay provider.

There may have been more, but i missed them. Anybody else successfully unlocked? The provider used would be great if so.
