Finally after explaining the whole situation to the sixth Telstra employee 3 on the phone, and 2 in store , I found someone who actually did some troubleshooting and put data on and off my account replicating the fault, confirming that there was 1GB missing.

Finally she restored the missing credit, but advised me that technical support says there is no fault with the device. And the data has gone missing again. I downloaded just enough to get me below the 1GB limit, then turned the device off and back on, and we are locked out again!

Thanks to Richard who contacted us via Facebook to bring the issue to our attention and then we contacted the correct people at Telstra who will sort out what is happening. The MF is behaving correctly as designed and acting as if the billing platform is flagging that you have run out of quota.

Now if you are seeing this issue Whim me and I will ask you to supply some details that you can get from the MF WebUI that we can use to check what is happening in your specific case and it may help sort out the issue for everyone who is seeing it.

So the fault in the mf must be in the Telstra billing system I have lost a few GB this way but not knowing the cause blamed the family for leeching.

I inserted my sim card into a optus modem unlocked and it worked!!! Regained my lost 1 GB. Truly black magic stuff, all sorted out by a little front end chip set. Tried the cheap Vodaphone USB stick without antenna socket and cannot get cheaper broadband that way as the speed is just atrocious.

Got past 1GB without red screen of death. For me it looks like it may be fixed. Took nearly 4 months to fix and gave me a good opportunity to check out Optus which I find is cheaper and faster where I am.

Have you tried it. I would like to try my modem with a router also. Which router are you using and is it hard to set up. Does anyone have any opinion on which prepaid hotspot I should go for? Is the 10 hours for actual usage?

If I recall correctly the modem will go into standby if there is no activity after about 10 minutes. There may be a setting to override this as I remember people complaining about this "feature". I can only speak for the MF91 and earlier models and I never had that problem but some people said they had to physically restart the modem after a short period of no data transfer.

Does anyone know the distances for the short, medium and long wi-fi range? I think the first instruction with these modems is charge the battery. I generally let them go totally dead first up in any case.

Does your house have an outdoor TV antenna? You could try connecting the hotspot to the TV antenna instead of the TV and if you were very lucky it might be better than what you have now. If you buy an antenna of course you will need a coaxial cable to connect it to your hotspot.

The cable and the connectors attenuate the signal especially on higher frequencies so should be high quality generally thicker and as short as possible. A long cheap cable can lose more than you gain from a good antenna.

Did you try the MF on 3G? It can be just as fast as 4G and certainly has better coverage in many areas. The shorter the discharge low DoD , the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid full discharges and charge the battery more often between uses. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine.

There is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles to prolong life. You should have used up your data before changing offers or followed the advice given on this forum using Creditme2u in particular. My son put the wrong sized sim in it and it is now well and truly wedged in there. I opened all the ports on the thing sim, antenna on the back and gently wedged a plastic tool around the outside.

The thing is just clipped together — no screws. Once it popped I carefully pulled the two part apart ensuring all cables between the two halves stayed connected. That was enough for me to take a wooden cooking skewer and push it through the back of the sim slot to push the card back out the front.

Quite a good performer It alerted me again there was still an update. I took some screen grabs of the important pages, as I had done in the past, in case of problems. All went well, so then I clicked check for updates, and sure enough M07 was now available.

Quite the opposite in most cases. Speedtests generally find the best possible server s , sometimes using several at once to show potentially the best possible outcome. Any server you may access at any time may be under sufficient load to produce very slow speeds in either direction.

Can different servers differ that greatly in speed? You have to understand the nature of a server. A server can be overloaded or even fail. If it does you are rerouted to another one. There are inherent differences between wireless and fixed and how they deal with heavy loads but they use the same pathways on the Internet and therefore suffer the same shortcomings.

I went to the Caloundra Telstra store today and was fobbed off in the usual condescending way they treat pre-paid customers. They pushed the reset button on the device and handed it back to me, and said its fine now.

I waited five seconds, handed it back to them and said "the screen says its out of data again"". Caloundra Telstra store refused to look up my account online to see that the 1GB data still did remain. They told me that because it was prepaid there was nothing more they could do and I needed to phone Telstra prepaid.

They phoned up Telstra prepaid, and then said it would be a half hour wait on hold for prepaid, so they would get someone to call me back. Finally after explaining the whole situation to the sixth Telstra employee 3 on the phone, and 2 in store , I found someone who actually did some troubleshooting and put data on and off my account replicating the fault, confirming that there was 1GB missing.

Finally she restored the missing credit, but advised me that technical support says there is no fault with the device. And the data has gone missing again. I downloaded just enough to get me below the 1GB limit, then turned the device off and back on, and we are locked out again!

Thanks to Richard who contacted us via Facebook to bring the issue to our attention and then we contacted the correct people at Telstra who will sort out what is happening. The MF is behaving correctly as designed and acting as if the billing platform is flagging that you have run out of quota.

I inserted my sim card into a optus modem unlocked and it worked!!! Regained my lost 1 GB. Truly black magic stuff, all sorted out by a little front end chip set. Tried the cheap Vodaphone USB stick without antenna socket and cannot get cheaper broadband that way as the speed is just atrocious.

If I recall correctly the modem will go into standby if there is no activity after about 10 minutes. There may be a setting to override this as I remember people complaining about this "feature". I can only speak for the MF91 and earlier models and I never had that problem but some people said they had to physically restart the modem after a short period of no data transfer.

Does anyone know the distances for the short, medium and long wi-fi range? I think the first instruction with these modems is charge the battery. I generally let them go totally dead first up in any case.

An advantage of the home made corner reflector antenna is that it works on all bands although better on higher frequencies. Another almost free idea. Does your house have an outdoor TV antenna? You could try connecting the hotspot to the TV antenna instead of the TV and if you were very lucky it might be better than what you have now.

If you buy an antenna of course you will need a coaxial cable to connect it to your hotspot. The cable and the connectors attenuate the signal especially on higher frequencies so should be high quality generally thicker and as short as possible.

The fine print on the transfer page of the website says that you lose plus packs and bonus data when changing, but you keep your credit. Good luck with that. Oh but it does. Data Plus is very different to the old offer.

You should have used up your data before changing offers or followed the advice given on this forum using Creditme2u in particular. I had just done it for my phone, which went seamlessly with no wait time.

I read over the text on the offer change page for the Wifi service and interpreted "your credit rolls over to the new plan" as exactly that. In Australia I know of only two firmware versions: I have not seen a generic version. The sim card jams in the slot unless you put the sim in the correct way which is upside down. If not for these issues I would have been happy to buy more of them.

The ZTE only supports either 2. Not certain on the Netgear, but it probably supports both simultaneously. The Netgear can be used with an optional cradle for charging and to supply an Ethernet connection.

Quite the opposite in most cases. Speedtests generally find the best possible server s , sometimes using several at once to show potentially the best possible outcome. Any server you may access at any time may be under sufficient load to produce very slow speeds in either direction.

Can different servers differ that greatly in speed? You have to understand the nature of a server. A server can be overloaded or even fail. If it does you are rerouted to another one. There are inherent differences between wireless and fixed and how they deal with heavy loads but they use the same pathways on the Internet and therefore suffer the same shortcomings.

I went to the Caloundra Telstra store today and was fobbed off in the usual condescending way they treat pre-paid customers. They pushed the reset button on the device and handed it back to me, and said its fine now.

I waited five seconds, handed it back to them and said "the screen says its out of data again"". Caloundra Telstra store refused to look up my account online to see that the 1GB data still did remain. They told me that because it was prepaid there was nothing more they could do and I needed to phone Telstra prepaid.

They phoned up Telstra prepaid, and then said it would be a half hour wait on hold for prepaid, so they would get someone to call me back. Finally after explaining the whole situation to the sixth Telstra employee 3 on the phone, and 2 in store , I found someone who actually did some troubleshooting and put data on and off my account replicating the fault, confirming that there was 1GB missing.

Finally she restored the missing credit, but advised me that technical support says there is no fault with the device. And the data has gone missing again. I downloaded just enough to get me below the 1GB limit, then turned the device off and back on, and we are locked out again!

Thanks to Richard who contacted us via Facebook to bring the issue to our attention and then we contacted the correct people at Telstra who will sort out what is happening. The MF is behaving correctly as designed and acting as if the billing platform is flagging that you have run out of quota.

Now if you are seeing this issue Whim me and I will ask you to supply some details that you can get from the MF WebUI that we can use to check what is happening in your specific case and it may help sort out the issue for everyone who is seeing it.

It has happened 3 times now each time when it reaches 1GB and just happened again tonight. Why should I have to recharge to reclaim data that should be there in the first place. So the fault in the mf must be in the Telstra billing system I have lost a few GB this way but not knowing the cause blamed the family for leeching.

I inserted my sim card into a optus modem unlocked and it worked!!! Regained my lost 1 GB. Truly black magic stuff, all sorted out by a little front end chip set. Tried the cheap Vodaphone USB stick without antenna socket and cannot get cheaper broadband that way as the speed is just atrocious.

Is the 10 hours for actual usage? If I recall correctly the modem will go into standby if there is no activity after about 10 minutes. There may be a setting to override this as I remember people complaining about this "feature".

I can only speak for the MF91 and earlier models and I never had that problem but some people said they had to physically restart the modem after a short period of no data transfer. Does anyone know the distances for the short, medium and long wi-fi range?

I think the first instruction with these modems is charge the battery. I generally let them go totally dead first up in any case. I see why you want to turn wifi off.
