Review x zte grand like getting

Whilst we may appreciate the different OEM Android based operating systems we get from the likes of Samsung and HTC, it makes a refreshing change to see some vanilla. ZTE used good materials to build the Grand X 4. Pay them no mind; kids rebel against their parents all the time. I use this it for 2 months as my main device, and it is great. That said, I had no problem seeing it in direct sunlight, and viewing angles are decent. Indeed, it can, and has been rooted which sets the ball rolling nicely.

Despite not packing cutting edge specs, it runs plenty smooth enough. It struggles somewhat when leaving a resource hogging game, and there are some odd -- and totally random -- reboots and crashing issues.

Battery life is somewhat subjective as we all know. The kindest thing to say about battery life on the Grand X is that it can pretty much make it through the day without hunting for a charger. Extended gaming sessions see the battery disappear, but at least it is replaceable.

Performance on standby is pretty decent though. While left on tick over, battery drain is minimal and helps get through the day that little bit better. The hope is always there that a review unit lands, you fire it up, and it has a really great camera.

In the right light, snaps from the 5MP rear camera are actually relatively crisp, vibrant and clear. As is so often, and sadly, the case, when the light fades so does the quality. When you switch the video mode, the same mid-range quality can be applied.

The colors are bright enough though in the right light, and for the average use case of such a thing, it will probably pass as adequate. The front facing camera is suitably poor quality though, as is so often the case.

With stock ICS on board, one would expect a decent array of possibilities in this department for the Grand X. Indeed, it can, and has been rooted which sets the ball rolling nicely. Especially considering that sweet, vanilla, Ice Cream Sandwich you get thrown into the bargain.

However, there is another way. The biggest difference here would be an expected increase in battery life. Battery life is going to be important to the average Joe Public consumer in the market for a decent, yet inexpensive smartphone.

I use this it for 2 months as my main device, and it is great. Do they not know that ANY network connected device is a possible zombie device for a bot net? Skip to main content. Big money EU considers yet another record fine for Google, this time for Android.

The Max 2 also supports dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4. Call quality leaves something to be desired. Transmissions are generally audible, but voices have a harsh edge to them and there are occasional skips.

Noise cancellation is acceptable, but car horns and other loud background noise can still break through. The Max 2 supports Dolby Digital Plus sound enhancement for headphones. I tested with a pair of standard earphones and used Gaming mode while playing GTA: San Andreas and Music mode while listening to Spotify.

Processor and Battery The Max 2 has a capable Snapdragon processor clocked at 1. It far outstrips both the Snapdragon powered Idol 3 28, and the Snapdragon powered Stylo 2 26, In terms of real-life performance, the Max 2 handles day to day applications smoothly, launching apps and multitasking without any significant instances of lag.

Gaming is equally good; Asphalt 8 and GTA: San Andreas run fast and look good on the super-sized screen. Battery life is solid, especially taking into account the 6-inch display. The Max 2 clocked 5 hours and 30 minutes in our rundown test, in which we set screen brightness to maximum and stream full-screen video over LTE.

The phone supports Quick Charge 2. Camera The phone has a unique dual-camera setup, boasting a primary megapixel sensor with a secondary 2-megapixel sensor underneath. The twin lenses are supposed to add increased depth and sharpness to pictures, but as far as I can tell, it performs like an average midrange and not much different from the Idol 3.

Above the touchscreen is a low-res 1-megapixel shooter and an in-ear speaker. Below are three hot keys for Back, Home and Menu that light up when in use. To launch Google Now and recent apps, long-press the Home and Menu keys, respectively.

Basic task managing apps that are baked-in include native browser and email clients, a calendar, a calculator, a notepad, a clock with alarm and stopwatch functions, a news and weather app, video and music players, a sound recorder and a voice dialer.

Cricket threw in some of its preloaded apps too. TouchPal X activates an optional keyboard and text-inserting function, KingSoft Offices is a mobile office suite, and Mi-EasyAccess allows you change the app shortcuts on your lockscreen.

The Grand X does include Bluetooth 4. Camera quality for the 5-megapixel camera was passable, but only just. It also takes an average of 4. In general, photos look sharp, and images are clear. However, colors appear muted, and dark hues are even harder to discern from one another.

Think that x zte review grand mAh battery powers

The phone also supports Bluetooth 4. The Grand X 3 is powered by a Snapdragon chipset clocked at 1. The phone scored a paltry 22, in AnTuTu, which tests overall system performance. There are noticeable instances of lag when you launch apps or switch between them.

But the biggest performance shortfall comes with gaming, as the phone struggled with games like Asphalt 8: Airborne and Mortal Kombat X. Battery life is good, with the Grand X 3 clocking 5 hours and 48 minutes in our rundown test, where we set screen brightness to max and stream full-screen video over LTE.

It handily beats the Idol 3 4 hours and 12 minutes. You should have no problem with all-day use, plus you can always swap the battery out for a new one. The 8-megapixel rear-facing sensor has reasonably reliable and snaps usable outdoor pictures.

It has very good travel and feedback. It has a very fine ribbed texture to it. The volume toggle resembles two screen lock buttons stuck together, but with a smooth texture. I wish the volume toggle were a little bit longer, which might make it easier to tell up from down.

I sometime found myself raising the volume when I meant to lower it and vice versa. That said, travel and feedback is quite good. The card tray is slotted into the left edge of the phone.

The USB-C ecosystem is finally beginning to pick up a bit of steam, but it still may be harder for you to find cables and other accessories to work with the Grand X 4. I like the treatment of the rear panel.

The camera, flash, and fingerprint sensor are a finely balanced trio of elements. The camera module and fingerprint sensor are small round circles rimmed in chrome, which helps them stand out.

The camera module is raised perhaps one millimeter, while the fingerprint sensor is indented perhap one millimeter. You can easily tell them apart by feel. That might be a dealbreaker for some. Words and icons are noticeably less sharp than on higher-end phones with 5.

Color representation is accurate, and viewing angles are decent for this type of screen. I was able to consistently connect all calls, even under poor signal conditions, on the first dial. The phone held onto calls firmly at highway speeds.

Data performance was good enough to handle low-key social networks such as Instagram and Twitter, but streaming YouTube and Spotify content via LTE was sometimes choppy. The Grand X 4 is a middling voice phone.

I did have to keep the volume set all the way up at all times. Clarity is a bit of a different story. The earpiece produces choppy sound, for sure, especially when you crank the volume. People I spoke to through the Grand X 4 said I sounded "broken up.

The speakerphone takes things down a step. This means calls are harder to understand all around. The distortion could be mitigated a bit by turning down the volume. Should this be the case, the argument for a Jelly Bean update deteriorates a little, but you would imagine it a simple exercise all else considered.

Despite not packing cutting edge specs, it runs plenty smooth enough. It struggles somewhat when leaving a resource hogging game, and there are some odd -- and totally random -- reboots and crashing issues.

The shell forms the entire rear panel and all four side edges of the phone; the glass is fitted within. The gray shell has a nice crisscrossed texture to it. Some chrome-colored accents help complete the appearance by throwing in a hint of eye-catching sparkle.

I had no trouble putting the phone in my pocket, and yet I always knew it was there. ZTE used good materials to build the Grand X 4. Nothing about the phone feels flimsy or weak. The glass is installed tightly into the plastic chassis; the seams are even all the way around.

Since the chassis is a single piece of material, it is incredibly strong. The bezels are rather thick. I wish the display blended in seamlessly with the glass around it; it stands out. The user-facing camera is clearly visible off to the right of the ZTE logo.

Three capacitive buttons line the bottom of the phone. Like many ZTE handsets, the buttons consist of a small, circular icon in the center for the home button, and two smal dots to either side for the back and app-switcher functions.

They glow a nice blue so you can find them in the dark. These buttons are covered in a chrome paint so they stand out visually. It has very good travel and feedback. It has a very fine ribbed texture to it.

The Max 2 exceeds where it needs to with a beautiful display, great battery life, and an excellent software experience. In terms of design, the ZTE Grand X Max 2 is slightly reminiscent of the recently announced Axon 7 , as it shares the same port and button locations as well as a subtle curve to help with handling.

Instead of an aluminum unibody however, the Max 2 is composed of a glossy plastic rear cover fixed to a plastic band with a number of clips. Overall, the phone looks very nice with its blue color scheme and subtle pattern on the rear.

Despite its larger form factor, the Grand X Max 2 feels quite nice in the hand. It seems that the phone doubles as a fingerprint magnet at times, but this is nearly inevitable with either a plastic or glass rear.

Although plastic is generally more durable than glass, we noticed many scratches on our Max 2 review unit after only a week of use. Our unit also suffered from an approximately one meter drop onto concrete, and, although the plastic rear fared well, the side band was easily chipped in several locations.

Build quality seems about average for the price, so you may want to consider also purchasing a case, as accidents do happen. This is a great setting to have, and the confusion associated with the indeterminately labeled buttons wears off surprisingly quickly.

Now if only every smartphone manufacturer gave users this option…. While the Max 2 seemed small to me at first after coming from the 6. It has great color reproduction, very good contrast, just the right amount of saturation, and is reasonably readable outdoors.

Sporting a 5-inch display, a 5-megapixel camera and a dual-core processor, the ZTE Grand X is a perfect example of a middle-of-the-road phone that is reliable and affordable. The carrier itself has plenty of more alternatives like the HTC Desire and the Motorola Moto G , which offer a smoother and faster user experience for the same low cost.

On its left edge is a Micro-USB port and a volume rocker. Both the volume and power keys bulge out ever so slightly from the surface, making them easy to feel for and comfortable to press.

The back houses a 5-megapixel camera lens and flash, which are set off in a wide, glossy black oval finish. A small audio grille rests on the bottom-right corner. Using a small indentation on the bottom edge, you can pry off the back plate to access the removable 2,mAh battery, SIM card and microSD card, which is expandable up to 32GB.

The screen can also be unresponsive to the touch, and on occasion, it required several taps or swipes of my finger to register an action. Due to its narrow viewing angle, the screen can appear washed out when you tilt it, and it becomes difficult to view the display.

Above the touchscreen is a low-res 1-megapixel shooter and an in-ear speaker. Below are three hot keys for Back, Home and Menu that light up when in use.
